Ronan had been awake for awhile, and although he knew it was early morning, this thoughts wouldn’t stop going over and over the confrontation he had with Neil in the restaurant. Once he’d sat back down next to Caleb, he’d dismissed the entire conversation from his mind, or so he’d thought.

He didn’t care about the words or the anger behind them that echoed throughout the room, but he’d noticed Caleb’s tension during the entire episode and he worried that their relationship was too new to have outside opinions forced upon them.

“What are you thinking about so hard at four in the morning?” Caleb’s sleep-laden voice cut through his thoughts.

Ronan glanced down and watched Caleb slowly blink awake, before he leaned down and captured his mouth in a heated kiss. When they broke the kiss, Caleb curled against his side and Ronan held him close. “About the argument last night. Can I ask you a question?”

Caleb kissed the side of Ronan’s mouth and lifted his head off the pillow. He caught Ronan’s gaze in his and gave him a smile that sent his heart racing. “Sure, anything.”

“What bothered you about the situation with Neil?”

“I didn’t really care about his words one way or the other. Only your opinion matters. But I was worried that Sam or Hawk would stand and punch the guy out, and I debated whether I should intervene or just let them go for it. But in the end, I decided if they or you were going to punch the man, I would try to prevent it.”

Ronan couldn’t help it, he laughed. “Why?”

“No matter who you are or what you do, people are always going believe they have a right to tell you how to live your life. They don’t like something; whether it’s two men holding hands, or an interracial couple, or whatever the case may be, and some need to voice that opinion. And no matter what we believe, we can’t change their opinions by the use of violence.

“That’s why I would stop you and your friends from getting into an altercation. If Neil is willing to spout his opinion to an entire restaurant full of people, then nothing will sway his thoughts. But you calmly reminded him that your business employs him and pays him the majority of his income, and because of that, he’ll have to think about his reaction to seeing us together. I don’t think that he’ll change his mind, but he’ll realize his mistake and maybe next time, he won’t be so quick to judge other people.”

Ronan cupped Caleb’s face before he lowered his mouth down and captured Caleb’s lips. As a pulled back, he smiled. “You are an amazing man.”

Caleb moaned and kissed him again. Ronan’s heart beat wildly in his chest as he closed his eyes as savored Caleb’s taste. But at the same time, their touch gave him a sense of peace that he’d never felt before. He held Caleb close, loving how they seemed to know what the other wanted with a few words or a touch.
